Wizard101?

As I have mentioned in the blog and the podcast before, I had a brief stint with Wizard101 maybe 9 months ago.  This was how I received notification that Pirate101 was going live and started all of this!  I had gotten a Death School wizard to level 18 with a house and a mount but just started to get tired of the battles.  Also, I didn't know anyone in the game and my play time was becoming difficult.

Things have changed.  Now that I have been playing Pirate101 for a while and have become active in the community, I know people who play both games and, in fact, who have significantly more experience in Wizard101 than Pirate101.  On top of all that, I'd like to broaden my KingsIsle horizon.

For all of these reasons, I have decided to create a new Wizard and start the game over.  I won't delete my Death wizard, as I have a crown investment there, but I feel like I need to get back into the swing of things by starting afresh (and going through the tutorials again).

So, here's my question, denizens of the spiral: what school of Wizard should I create?  As I mentioned, I already have a Death wizard, but I'm open to any other school.  Let me know in the comments here what you think, or send me a tweet to @TalkinthePlank or an email to talkintheplank@gmail.com

I plan on adding a new segment after the credits to each episode of Talkin' the Plank after the credits to track my (presumably) slow progress through the world of Avalon.  Whereas I endeavor to be an authority in Pirate101, this segment will be me asking questions of the community.  Therefore, even if you don't play Pirate101, but are feeling charitable, you can listen and respond and help me be the best Wizard I can be!  To facilitate folks who don't care about Pirates, with each episode, I'll post the time stamp for when the Wiz101 talk begins.  This will most likely start with Episode 12, so stay tuned!

  1. When you made your death wizard was it the result of the quiz? It's always fun to see what comes out of taking the quiz. :) Is there something about your death wizard that you don't like? My inclination would be to continue alone with your death wizard unless there is something you don't like. Barring those two options, I have to recommend the storm school. It's a bit more difficult to solo than the other classes and starts a little slow with the fizzles and low health, but later in the game . . . POW! Biggest damage in the game. :)

  2. I have nothing against the Death school, I just don't remember how to play the game and thought starting over with a new wizard would be a good way to reacquaint myself with the game mechanics. Since I already have a Death wiz, I wanted to start another class. If I keep playing the game, I'll most likely go back and level my Death wizard some more, again, once I get back into the game . . . or maybe I'll like my new Wizard so much, I won't need to go back! Who knows?

  3. I actually have 1 of each wizard. death for some reason being my less favorite, as well as myth.storm is a great school but the low health makes it a minus as being the top school for me. I myself prefer the fire school. it also has great damage, as well as better health.ice and balance being my second choice with ice getting the lead edge. it's damage isn't that great unless you really have time to set up, but with ices health and resist at least it will give you the time you need to hit.the bad thing about ice is you have to wait for your blade. so tc blades or use a training point for the tri-blades.balance is ok also.. but i just like my fire more lol.

  4. The "best" school all depends on your play style. If you want a defensive tank, take Ice - they're the only ones with universal shields (tower shields) and univeral resistance. Massive damage dealer but squishy, go with Storm - lowest health in the game but huge DPS. Fire's a little sturdier than Storm, a little lower DPS too but still pretty high, plus a lot of DOTs. Life has plenty of heals to use on self or others, but no AOE damage until the higher levels. Ditto no AOE damage for Death until higher up, but they're the only ones that can damage others & heal self on the same round.

  5. I have to agree with Tabitha, I would recommend you to pick for e fresh start, Fire school. I also have life, ice, storm and death. But Fire was the one that actually draw me in to get addictive to this game till this day. Have fun and see you in the Spiral :).
